Frostbite Series - Race 2026-03-07
Exactly as predicted the rain held off and an easterly wind blew at a relatively steady and polite 10 knots. Our course took us on a close reach from Willingdon Beach to Grief Point, downwind to our mid channel virtual mark, upwind to the Mill mark before turning to a close reach back to Willingdon for the finish, a distance of some 10 nautical miles. I’ve never been in a four legged race requiring so few tacks, only three in total.
Upcoming Races
The 2026 Algerine race will commence in Comox harbour this year on Sunday, May 17th. Those participating from this side will be sailing over to Comox on Saturday, May 16th. There will be a dinner and trophy presentation in Westview on Sunday after the race.
This race has been run exactly 50 times since the first race in 1970. Powell River has prevailed a grand total of 7 times. Last year there were 15 entries and over the past few years interest has been growing as participating boats come from Vancouver, Pender Harbour and Deep Bay as well as Powell River and Comox. If you have a sailboat and belong to our club you are most welcome to join in
