Frostbite Series - Race 2025-02-15
First my apologies for the slightly pessimistic weather report Friday evening as it may have frightened some from coming out. Still we had enough fearless daredevils to crew up 4 boats for what turned out to be a pleasant race in moderate winds and with only a hint of rain.
It was great to have our newest contender, Animaris out. She's a 36 ft. Pearson skippered by owner Kelly. She sailed well trimmed and fast with her well disciplined crew, displaying serious potential.
Our course took us south from Willingdon to Grief Point, then north to the mill mark before turning south once again to finish at Willingdon, a distance of 8 1/2 nautical miles. The start was slow with Bring ice and Una, first and second across. Una and Red Dwart tried to head out to the apparent stronger winds while Bring Ice stayed inside taking a more direct route to Grief Point. All arrived at Grief Point in the same order with Bring Ice in the lead.
Downwind to the Mill mark Una flew her spinnaker and managed to take the lead only to loose it again to Bring Ice on the final leg back to Willingdon in a photo finish where the boats crossed within seconds of each other. Congradulations to Bring Ice for line honours and first place corrected.

Weekly term
For those of us who enjoy different aspects of sailing but who occasionally find themselves a bit deficient in sailing terminology I’ll be offering a weekly term definition from my newly acquired dictionary.
- Abandon:
- A wild state in which a sailor squires a boat.
- A wild state in which a sailor relinquishes a boat.
