Fall Series - Race 2025-10-11
It was a challenging day with strong choppy North west winds at 10 - 20 knots. Six boats entered the race and everyone finished. Our course was a beat from Willingdon to the mill followed by a close reach to our virtual mid-channel mark and then downwind to Grief Point with a close reach to the finish at Willingdon, a distance of 10 nautical miles. It was a fast race as we covered the 10 nautical miles in less time than last weeks 6 mile course.
The start was a bit hairy as Una approached the line a bit early on port tack whereupon we decided to switch to starboard and run the line. This move caused some interesting mayhem as we slowed down a lot having made a poor tack which forced others to do some quick thinking. Kukuna coming in fast on port tack managed to dance through in front of us before tacking to starboard to avoid Seance who was coming around our stern. We ended up exactly where we didn’t want to be and went back onto port tack to get away from all the turbulence. Bring Ice probably had the cleanest start followed closely by Kukuna and Seance who proceeded to take the lead in short order.
Una was finally able to catch Kukuna at the mid channel and in a futile effort to catch Bring Ice we raised our spinnaker only to loose any gain at the Grief Point mark as the spinnaker was having so much fun it didn’t want to come down and consequently we ended up sailing far longer course than needed. Seance and Bring Ice both sailed flawless races today as did Revelar with skipper Bob Webster sailing her single handed nipping us at the finish by 5 seconds. Congradulations to Seance for another fine performance with line honours and another win.
