Spring Series - Race 2025-05-10

Lauritz Chambers 14 May 2025 84

Eight boats came out for a very exciting race today. The south east winds strengthened from the start from an estimated 8 knots up to 17 and it seemed we had some 20 knot gusts, one of which had the honour of shredding Una’s spinnaker.

The course was upwind from Willingdon to Grief Point then downwind to the mill mark and again upwind for the finish at Willingdon, a distance of approximately 8.5 nautical miles.

The start was quite civilized with Balderdash taking the lead followed by Bring Ice and Una. Seance had a slow start but passed everyone on the way to Grief Point and held the lead to the finish. It was good sailing all around as is shown by the close corrected finish times.

Congratulations to Seance and her cockpit full of new sailors for line honours and a close second place and to Una for winning in corrected time.

The next race will be the annual Algerine race and it will start at 0900 hours on Sunday. There will be 5 boats from our side competing with several from Comox and possibly a few from elsewhere. The start will be just south of the South Boat harbour. If you’re not racing come down to the Marine Ave. lookout and take some pictures or better still video.
