Frostbite Series - Race 2026-03-07

Lauritz Chambers 8 March 2026 14

Exactly as predicted the rain held off and an easterly wind blew at a relatively steady and polite 10 knots. Our course took us on a close reach from Willingdon Beach to Grief Point, downwind to our mid channel virtual mark, upwind to the Mill mark before turning to a close reach back to Willingdon for the finish, a distance of some 10 nautical miles. I’ve never been in a four legged race requiring so few tacks, only three in total.

Bring Ice took the lead from the start followed by Balderdash, Una, Revelar and Navis. Una quickly moved up on the windward side passing Balderdash and challenging Bring Ice for the lead. Bring Ice tried to push Una up head to wind however a large obstruction in the form of a docked B.C. ferry foiled that strategy meaning Bring Ice had to bear off thereby allowing Una to pass by to windward. Una maintained the lead for the duration and lengthened it further with her downwind spinnaker run.
